Sierra Leone Selected as Host Country for Maiden Edition of Mano River Union Internet Governance Forum (MRU IGF)

The Mano River Union Internet Governance Forum (MRU IGF) is delighted to announce that Sierra Leone has been officially chosen as the host country for its inaugural edition. The decision was confirmed by the Ministry of Communication Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Sierra Leone, under the leadership of the Honorable Minister, Salma Bah.

The selection of Sierra Leone as the host country underscores its commitment to advancing digital innovation and fostering inclusive digital governance within the Mano River Union region. The MRU IGF serves as a platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue and cooperation on internet governance issues.

“We are excited to announce Sierra Leone as the host country for the maiden edition of the MRU IGF,” said Peterking Quaye, Regional Coordinator of the MRU IGF Secretariat. “Sierra Leone’s dedication to promoting digital inclusion and innovation makes it an ideal location for this important event. We are confident that Sierra Leone will provide a conducive environment for productive discussions and collaboration among stakeholders.”

The hosting process for the MRU IGF has commenced, with the establishment of a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to oversee the planning and execution of the event. The LOC will work closely with government agencies, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector to ensure the success of the forum.

“We are committed to hosting a successful and impactful MRU IGF,” said Honorable Minister Salma Bah. “Sierra Leone looks forward to welcoming stakeholders from across the region to engage in discussions on internet governance issues and explore opportunities for collaboration and innovation.”

The MRU IGF will address a wide range of topics, including digital inclusion, cybersecurity, data protection, and regulatory frameworks for the digital economy. The forum aims to foster collaboration and partnerships to address the unique internet governance challenges facing the Mano River Union region.
